What does it look like to walk your talk? Do you have a particular message you talk about frequently but don’t really know how to live it out?
I belong to a discussion board of leaders and this post resonated with me:
Roshanna Sidney Evans, Director at Spirit Bank Exchange wrote:
“We continue to proliferate fast food chains, clear forests, pollute the air, treat each other wrongfully and justify it so what if Big Brother Time just ran out…. Let’s imagine….and maybe we’ll see that Time is not the issue….we are. I have become so much like leavening bread, more engaged, perceptive, sensory.
Yesterday, returning from singing lessons, I saw an elderly couple had trouble getting across the street. I offered to help, they seemed timid, so I stepped out into the traffic, opened both my arms up and the cars stopped. I smiled to thank them and then I escorted the couple across the street. People on the sidewalk stopped to watch and smile. That easy. That easy. Everybody wins!”
Nice Post Roshanna, congratulations on walking your talk.
We can sit and discourse until the cows come home but if we aren’t moving when we feel the call to act then our living isn’t living…it’s merely taking up real estate.I once asked a little boy, in a low income housing area, why he and his family wouldn’t pick up the trash all around their home. His response? “Because we’re poor.”
That says it all. Lets stop teaching our kids to live in a POOR state of mind. We’ll live in a poor state of mind until we BELIEVE that we can make a difference. It just might be one small step at a time.
Step up when no one else does; be different than most, do what your spirit says to do whether it makes sense to you or not, or if someone sees you or not… it has got to start with ME.
If I’m not doing it, why in the world should I expect anyone else to?
If I walk by trash without picking it up, why should that little boy sitting in front of a trashy home do it just because I think he should? Who am I to judge him if I don’t bend down and do it myself?
Even God gets shot down by those he tries to motivate because they’d rather be lazy. Inspiring people makes more sense but if you’re not living the life you’re trying to inspire – you’ll be called out eventually.
Believe your message yourself…. but more importantly live it yourself…whatever that may look like and when you do, you’ll inspire others simply by living out your message. You won’t even have to talk about it!
