At Starbucks I saw an elderly couple talking to a lovely woman at a small table. She was strikingly beautiful, and smiled for the longest time even after the couple left. I couldn’t help but watch her and wonder what gave her cause to smile for as long as she had been.
Years ago I made a commitment to God that if someone, or something, inspired me I would somehow do my best to give back, or pay it forward. This lovely woman inspired me, so I wrote her a note that said:
When I got up to give it to her she was on the phone. I waited for a minute and then decided to just hand it to her anyway. So I did, then I went and sat back down without expectation.
A few minutes later, I look up to see her walking toward me.
She said, “Thank you! No one has ever done anything like that before. Thank you for being bold like that.”
I introduced myself and explained my reason and commitment to being more bold and to share with those who inspire me. She seemed very impressed by my commitment so I continued with a little background as to why. I explained that in 2007 my nephew died in a drowning accident, his mom, my little sister, died of cancer a few months later, and that same year I ended up with a brain injury. I shared how I experienced a miracle of healing, and saw a vision of myself writing books, speaking all over the world and meeting new people. I told God, at that time, that I would love others in unique ways and one way was by writing notes to strangers.
She felt so impressed by this that she wanted to know what I did for a living, so I shared with her that I am creating events for Women to Inspiring Healing and Restoration. After 10 minutes of dialoging about the event, she expressed a sincere interest to work with me as a volunteer and gave me her name and phone number.
I tell you this story not to impress you, but to encourage you to throw off your fears. WHO CARES if someone thinks your strange? Let them! Do what you feel inspired to do and watch your life E-X-P-A-N-D.
